Testimonial by Matthias Thummachai 2018, A levels H2 Maths, Raffles Institution

I have been a student at Wayne Jones Eduhouse since Secondary 1, and I am ever-grateful for having Wayne and his team as my tutors for Mathematics, for besides attaining an A for the subject at A Levels, I have been inculcated with valuable skills for life such as being analytical and quick-thinking during problem-solving. The WJE programme is unique and well-structured – summary lessons and practices highlight key concepts which are eventually consolidated through weekly tests and a generous array of full examination papers on top of carefully-curated challenging questions as homework. All these then culminate in the Hunger Games, the ultimate trial of our knowledge, skills and time-management before our Preliminary Examinations. In preparation for this programme, there is no shortage of resources – students are equipped with handy Edu-Bookmarks, booklets and customised notebooks to accompany them throughout lessons, while coloured chalk on the blackboard will surely benefit visual learners in understanding topics like Vectors. From Day 1, Wayne has always emphasised the importance of practice, shaping his students into self-disciplined and responsible scholars. At the same time, for any keen learner who raises difficult questions, Wayne never hesitates to extend his help. Overall, I am proud to call Wayne my mentor, and WJE my third home where I spent many afternoons and evenings working on sharpening my Mathematics skills. I strongly recommend WJE to anyone struggling with or seeking a platform to develop their aptitude for the subject.

Having studied in WJE was a pleasant experience for me. In WJE, I’ve been drilled consistently in various math questions including challenging ones, allowing me to be much more competent and confident in doing my schoolwork and exams. Wayne and the other instructors were very helpful in answering my inquiries, clearing all my doubts and allowing me to achieve significant improvements in my mathematics grades.

When I first joined the class, I was failing my A-math badly. After joining, I managed to pass all of my exams in school & do well for ‘O’-levels even though I have only attended classes for a couple of months. Afterwards, for ‘A’ levels, math was a lot tougher than it was in secondary school. However, Wayne made it easy to understand & he fully prepared us for examinations. The questions he chose for us to practice are very useful during exams and the method used to solve these questions are mostly similar to those used in the exam papers. By ‘A’ levels, I was fully prepared and knew how to solve most of the questions. I am very thankful for all the test practices, tips and also the hunger games for prepping me well for my ‘A’ levels ! This is because Wayne has his own method of teaching which is different from others & I managed to understand the topics fast and effectively. Also, I began to enjoy doing math. Wayne is very passionate about teaching and has come up with different ways to teach us using his own summary notes and formula bookmarks. He summarizes the method used to solve the question as simple as possible and therefore making it very easy to comprehend & apply the formulas taught. With the help of Wayne, math became easier in JC & I am thankful that I got a distinction for it ! This is achievable thanks to Wayne Jones Eduhouse.

I joined Wayne's H2 maths class at the start of J1. All along, I had not been performing well in school, and had been getting Es. What really helped me was the revision packages that we had been given in our J2 classes, where we would practice other school's papers and then go through it together. There was also a booklet on the different Maths formulas that we can use, and that allowed me to understand the various concepts better as well as apply them. The one thing that was the most memorable for me would be the Hunger Games, where we were given a mock paper and then benchmarked against our peers. This actually gave me confidence and motivation to practice even harder than before, allowing me to achieve that A in A Levels. His topical packages were something that served me well, as it taught us the different methods to tackle the questions. It also included a short summary of what we need to learn at the end of the topic, with step by step analysis on how to handle the questions. I would like to thank Wayne for his guidance and patience.
