A message from an Ex-student.

I'm humbled to receive this message from an ex- student who attended our WJE party yesterday. It reminded me of yesteryear when WJE was started with basic infrastructure and how it began with a vision of delivering quality learning experience to our students. We will still keep to our promise of constantly revolutionizing our students' learning experience with us. "Hello Wayne. Thank you for having me over despite the fact that i've graduated XXX years ago. The quality of the food, ambience, setting and your hospitality is top notch! What with the starbucks feel. Having said that, it is heartening to have witnessed the growth of Wayne Jones. An idea was conceived and now it remains to be seen by all the fruit of your labour. I remember you organising the first party as an act of giving thanks to your students. You stuck by that philosophy and held the fourth party just yesterday. I believe Wayne Jones is not a tuition centre, but a second home to many. The journey has been nothing short of amazing. Here's wishing you another enriching year ahead of inspiring young souls and moulding young minds! Thank you for everything. Yours truly, XXX

New Look of Wayne Jones Eduhouse

This year, Wayne Jones Eduhouse has decided to take itself one step forward in creating a cozy environment for its students. We have renovated the study facility where students can do test papers after lessons and stay back for a short board game with their friends. Staying true to our motto of "constantly revolutionizing the way you learn", we are going to be better and stronger. Stay tune for more changes coming up! Wayne.

Building a house

Learning is like building a wooden house from scratch. It requires nails to hold pieces of wood together. Reinforcing concepts is like hitting the nail firmly into the wood. My job of teaching is like helping students position pieces of wood together and placing the nails properly. How firmly the nail is secured into the wood would be dependent on how many times the students are willing to nail it in. Ultimately, overtime we are building a house which would be able to withstand the tremors of earthquakes or the forces of the torrential rain. Nobody wants to live in a house feeling insecure that it might collapse anytime, akin to walking into an exam without preparing fully.

Random thoughts on a July morning

Now we are entering the busiest period of the year, The REvision Phase. All graduating classes have already started on Mock Papers. Some classes are doing on a weekly basis. This means lots and lots of markings to be done. This year, WJE has employed a team of markers to help handle the workload, because it is nearly impossible to be doing it all by myself unless i have decided not to sleep and rest. Recently I came across a book entitled "The Apple Experience" by chance, and i bought it immediately. I must admit i was truly inspired by Apple because of their spirit of innovation. So because of this, i have came out with products which will help students identify themselves with Wayne Jones Eduhouse, and refined the teaching methodologies over the years to greatly enhance their learning experience with us. Students who have been with WJE since the beginning has commented that things have indeed changed since the day they began having lessons here since 5 years ago. To upgrade myself, i have been taking Masters in Mathematics at NIE, learning Chinese Calligraphy, learning how to ride a motorcycle (i have a driving license by the way). Some of these may or may not be related to what i'm doing now, but i believe they enrich my life with more interesting stories to share with students during my teachings. I may not see how they may be related in any ways right now, but Steve Jobs once said, Go ahead and learn many things, 'cos someday somehow the dots will be connected when you looked back the past.

Testimonial by Bvlyn Leow 2012

"Most students dread tuition, and enter the tuition centre with an unwilling attitude, with no intention of making full use of their time in tuition class. However in Wayne Jones Eduhouse, hardly will you ever see a student who doesn't have the zest to learn and improve. You see, the students here have an advantage above their classmates - they already covered the syllabus probably a week ago. Wayne, the dedicated tutor ensures his students are fully equipped with the skills and knowledge of the topic before it is covered in school, making Things much easier for the student in school. He no longer has to struggle with homework! Also, my disdain for mathematics has grown and evolved into love and interest in the subject, making me look forward to every lesson in school and in tuition. I entered Wayne with the heartbreaking grade of D7 at secondary two, and in no time, I have gradually improved my Math, to attain distinction after distinction in my examinations, and most importantly, double distinctions for E and A Math in the GCE O Levels. I have recommended many friends who, just like me, was struggling to cope with mathematics. A large majority of wayne's students have also done themselves and their parents proud by improving drastically after attending Wayne's classes." -- Bvlyn Leow, Ahmad Ibrahim Sec Sch.

"Before joining Wayne Jones Eduhouse (WJE), I was very weak in both emath and amath – scoring only a C5 for emath and E8 for amath during my sec 3 end-of-year exams. Having only a year more to prepare for O levels, I was desperate to get my grades up, prompting me to join a tuition class ASAP. Therefore, through my cousin’s recommendation, I joined WJE. After having experienced many failures in maths, I was not expecting much from Wayne’s. All I wanted was a pass. Never did I expect my sec 4 results to be such a big jump from my previous year! I actually scored an A1 for emath and B3 for amath for the O level, thanks to Wayne’s systematic approach in teaching and constant encouragement! Wayne’s math classes are very clear and concise, even to weak students like me. It helped a lot when he gave personal attention to each and every student, promptly highlighting our weaknesses. Besides his lessons, I thank Wayne for his weekly edutests which impacted me a lot. Although, it may sound like it’s all work and no play, Wayne is actually a very fun-loving person! Attending his lessons is never a bore. He takes effort to make lessons interesting, lively and funny by sharing with us videos, talking about his interests and jokes. As his students, we regard him more of a friend and mentor than a teacher. Wayne is also ever-ready if students pop by any time to do homework/revision/ask him questions – he even go to the extent of creating handy math formulae bookmarks for our convenience. I was fortunate to have joined WJE and experienced the unique WJE experience. Wayne is truly a one-of-a-kind tutor whom I will not hesitate to recommend to any student!" -- Tan Jiahui, CHIJ Toa Payoh.

"There is this saying: "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires." Well, Wayne falls under the "great teacher" category. Wayne's lessons comprehensively covers Mathematics chapters taught at school. Through his relentless efforts to motivate us and devising his own unique methods to enable easy memorising and understanding of formulas, us students achieve an in-depth understanding of each chapter before we proceed to the next. Furthermore, this understanding is reinforced through regular tests held to ensure we keep what we have learnt in the previous lessons in mind. His dedication and sincere concern towards us students is also evident in his willingness to initiate one-to-one lessons with students who take longer to understand the syllabus - including me at one point of time - even despite some students' refusal. Through encouraging students to consistently put in effort, Wayne transforms us into motivated and dilligent students. Lessons are also made lively and fun with small yet beautiful amenities such as the laminated bookmarks given to us with mathematical formulas written on it. And not to forget his occasional attempt at humour in class which always cracks us up. "Success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out" - I still vividly remember this written on a placard in the Eduhouse. Wayne's energy and confidence in us students has definitely inspired us, pushing us beyond our comfort zone and maximising our potentials. In fact, I joined Wayne Jones Eduhouse when I was in Secondary One with a 3/25 for my first Common Test Maths Paper. Fast forward 4 years later, I've secured an A2 for my "O" Level AMaths and an A1 for my EMaths!!" - Lucas Lee, Chung Cheng High School (Yishun)

"As one proceeds on to upper secondary, the teaching pace in school passively increase and one may find it hard to check up with his or her studies. That was exactly what I had faced in secondary 4. However that all soon changed when I entered Wayne Jones Eduhouse as a student for his Additional Mathematics lesson. Not only did Wayne himself recap chapters taught in school but also developed his own methods for one to easily memorise the once complicated formulae. Wayne also ensures that students understands his lessons by giving mandatory short tests of the topic taught after every lesson. I knew that my Additional Mathematics was in safe hands from the beginning and that was confirmed with the A1 printed on my O Level result slip. Moreover, Wayne Jones Eduhouse isn't always about serious learning, students will surely enjoy the other activities installed here. From complimentary Japanese or Korean language lessons, to a year-end thanksgiving BBQ, Wayne ensures each and every students are proud to belong here." Cassell Chew, Ahmad Ibrahim Sec Sch.

"I still remember the first time i entered Wayne's class, i felt really scared and nervous as i heard that he was no ordinary teacher. True enough, he was special. But in a good way. He has an unique way of teaching that makes students find studying much more enjoyable. Not only that, his dedication towards us students is really commendable. From compiling notes to even cooking lunch for hardworking students.Sometimes, he will even sacrifice his lunch break to help the weaker students build up a strong foundation. Before i entered Wayne's class, I was just scoring a borderline pass for my Combined Science , Emaths and a FAIL for my Amaths. But after joining this tuition, my grades improved over the years and now, i have finally attained an A1 for both Comb.Sci and Emaths and an A2 for Amaths! My O level grades turned out much better than expected, attaining a total of 6 points. I would really like to thank Wayne for my achievement today.Wayne is the best tuition teacher-friend i have ever had!" - Calvin Lee, Maris Stella High School

"Motivation, fun, working hard and smart aptly describes my learning experience in Wayne Jones eduhouse. Wayne is a responsible and enthusiastic tutor who sets high yet realistic standards for his students. He has an encouraging drive that motivates us to take on challenges. His unflagging determination to help us improve in our studies allow our level of performance to exceed beyond expectations. Before I join Wayne Jones eduhouse, my grades for amaths and pure physics are borderline passes which was very devastating and I felt like giving up. However under wayne's encouragement and guidance, I picked myself up and saw my grades improve tremendously, in less than three month's time I got an a1 for amaths during my end of year examinations. Now, I received both distinctions for amaths and physics during the 2012 gce o levels examination. I could never have achieve this without wayne's patience guidance (I tend to ask stupid questions) and useful resources like edutests we have to do after lessons. The edutests also serve as a form of revision and hence effectively locking the topic in our heads. I particularly like the 'edumarks' Wayne provided for us as it allow me to study whenever I go ; even at the bus stop. this reminds us of consistency and indeed- Practice makes prefect. To add on, I enjoy the facilities at Wayne Jones eduhouse. e.g. the diamond water and games provided. It serves like a form of relaxation for my friends and I to gather once in a while to play a game of janga or pictionary after fruitful hours of studying. This strikes a balance between work and play. After one and a half year, I have met many friends through classes and the annual thanksgiving party. This little gatherings made my secondary school life more exciting and colourful. Wayne, thank you for showing care and concern for us and sharing your knowledge and resources. Without you, I will never be where I'm today. Thank you for making a great difference in my life." -- Low Meijun, Ahmad Ibrahim Sec Sch

Testimonial by Bradley Smahon 2012

"In 2009, I entered Wayne Jones Eduhouse with a mathematics grade of F9. Basic concepts were lost upon me, and my understanding of the subject was negligent. Over the course of 4 years under Wayne, my grades improved dramatically, shooting to an A1 for Elementary Mathematics and an A2 for my Additional Mathematics O level scores. Wayne stresses the importance of hard work and consistency. One of his unique methods of teaching includes the use of bookmarks that he has painstakingly put effort and time into constructing, providing math formulas. These are given by him to his students, to ensure that over time we would not be reliant on the bookmarks, but would know these formulas by heart. Wayne’s gift for teaching the subject of mathematics has helped me achieve so much more than I could have ever been capable of. He shows genuine care for his students, and goes out of his way to provide one-on-one services for weaker students, who sometimes take up his time well into the late night. He is one of the best mathematics tutors in Singapore in my highest opinion." - Bradley Smahon, Anglo Chinese School (Barker)
