“Successful people are not gifted, they just work hard, then succeed on purpose.” This is a quote that I read on the internet ages ago that I live by. Surprisingly simple yet it packs a strong punch. During Secondary 1, the transition between Primary school and Secondary school was just too great for me to handle even though I tried and spend countless hours practising mathematics. My reward? Just slow and unfruitful progress for mathematics. By Secondary 2, I was demoralised and depressed and almost gave up on mathematics. The turning point is when my cousin introduced me to WJE. I was sceptical initially but eventually complied. I officially joined WJE after MYE in Secondary 2. Immediately, I started to notice a difference in my grades, C6 to B3 gradually for my mathematics. In Secondary 3, I decide to challenge myself and take up Additional Mathematics. With the constant guidance and close supervision of Wayne, I scored an unexpected A1 for my Common Tests in Secondary 3. I scored A1 for both of my maths during the GCE ‘O’ level. What kept me in WJE for 2 ½ years is that of the attitude and the dedication of Wayne and the tutors. None of them ever believe in just A1, they believe in excelling themselves. Hence the feature that you can only find in WJE is that students have to complete weekly test which students have to score 85% and above in order to not do corrections. Which pushes students to aim for perfection and excel themselves in the process. I would put my journey in WJE this way – fruitful and invigorating but tiring and stressful at the same time. No euphemisms or cover ups just the facts. I would leave this message to you, “Nothing worth having comes easy.”
